The first date
It all started with a Hinge match and a first date at the Wayfarer. Marie was a little nervous, so naturally, she brought five of her best friends to secretly hide in the bar. You know, a totally normal first date.
Marie and Shaylor hit it off right away. At one point, a random couple even told them how cute they were together and bought them shots. Turns out, Marie’s friends had recruited the couple to deliver the drinks. The date was going well, and the peanut gallery was clearly rooting for them.
At the end of the night, Marie confessed that her friends had been there the entire time. Shaylor turned bright red, but they still ended the date with a kiss. Luckily, five undercover friends weren’t a dealbreaker for Shaylor, and one date turned into pretty much every day together since.
OVer the Years
A year into dating, Marie and Shaylor took their next adventure to San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Before the move, Shaylor gave Marie a promise ring, which she still wears today and had on when he proposed years later.
Their San Diego chapter was filled with parties they hosted, concerts, new friends, and very few quiet weekends. Now, they’re heading back to where so many of those memories began, with a wedding venue just a short distance from their old neighborhood. It only feels right to bring everyone back for one more party.

For the past two years, Marie and Shaylor have called the Bay Area home. With Shaylor back on his home turf and Marie a Southern California transplant, he’s had plenty to show her. Between exploring San Francisco together and spending time with Shaylor’s friends, this chapter has been full of new memories. What Marie didn’t know was that just a few months after their move, Shaylor was already planning their next one.
With a custom ring in the works and months of secret preparations, Shaylor had a plan. In late December 2025, he told Marie they were heading to a fancy holiday party. They stayed at the Beacon, overlooking Union Square’s Christmas decorations. With Christmas being Marie’s favorite holiday, the setting alone was enough to make her excited.
Before the party, they went downstairs for drinks, where a staff member explained that the lobby was full but offered to let them into the Starlite lounge before it opened. Marie didn’t suspect a thing. The staff member was in on it, the empty lounge was part of the plan, and a photographer was secretly waiting. As they looked out over Union Square, Shaylor asked Marie to marry him. For once, she was completely speechless.
Then Marie and Shaylor headed to the “holiday party” at his friend and now best man Cameron’s apartment. But Shaylor had one more surprise waiting: their friends and family, gathered for an engagement party complete with all of Marie’s favorite foods and desserts.
It was a night full of happy tears, lots of wine, and celebrating with their favorite people. And thanks to Marie’s sister and maid of honor, Megan, the whole adventure was documented. Watch her vlog below for the surprises, the reactions, and all the moments in between.
